Minors under 15 1/2 to 17 1/2 must complete the driver’s education to receive the certificate before they take their learner’s permit written test at the DMV. They should have a period of 6 months to complete 6 hours of Behind-the-Wheel training with a licensed driving school to obtain the certificate of completion of the required lessons. During the 6 months, the learner needs to practice 50 hours with parents, 10 hours at night and 40 hours in daylight to get fully prepared for the practical driver’s license test at the DMV.
- Minor under 18 but 17 1/2 must complete behind-the-wheel training and have earned the certificate without waiting for 6 months before they are allow to take the drive test for the actual driver license at the DMV.
